Our Mission
Recovery Tracker exists to make post-surgery recovery less isolating and more empowering. We are driven to deliver Continuity of Care—ensuring patients are supported across every care transition. We believe every patient deserves clear, adaptive guidance, real-time monitoring, and seamless connection to their care team during the critical first two weeks after surgery.
By transforming static discharge instructions and after-visit summaries into dynamic, interactive plans, we enable patients to actively track progress (e.g., range of motion, symptoms, daily tasks), ask trusted AI questions about what's normal, and escalate concerns when needed — all while providing clinicians with visibility into recovery trends.
At Resonance Partners, we apply Temporal AI (AI designed for challenges that unfold over time) to bridge the gap between hospital discharge and full recovery, turning episodic care into continuous, patient-centered support.
Our Journey: From Spark to Scalable Impact
The Innovation Path
A pivotal graduate course at the University of Southern California—IDSN 599 Machine Intelligence—ignites Soren DeOrlow's passion. Ideas around autonomous agents, data science, Python coding, and tackling meaningful challenges take root, laying the foundation for a new era of AI-powered healthcare solutions.
Graduate studies at USC deepen Soren's expertise in business analytics, data science, product development, and entrepreneurship. In early June, a USC classmate invites him to the AI Med Global Summit in San Diego, where fresh inspiration strikes and the vision for future impact begins to crystallize.
Attending the AI Conference in San Francisco and delivering the foundational UCSF talk—"Empowering Healthcare Designers: Navigating AI's Emerging Frontier of Impact"—shares a vision for ethical, responsive AI in patient care. In February 2024, a UCSF workshop on agentic design principles for After Visit Summaries marks the exciting start of the discharge opportunity area, bridging cutting-edge AI with real-world healthcare transformation.
In October 2024, Resonance Partners launches Longitudinal AI as an independent publication/journal (longitudinal.ai), becoming a vibrant platform to explore exponential technologies, ethics, and bold innovation. The Recovery Tracker project officially begins in 2025, fueled by years of insight and a powerful new collaboration with a surgeon connection from a USC classmate—turning vision into tangible momentum. Early wireframing begins for a recovery support tool, driven by a growing belief that technology can make healing journeys smoother and more empowering.
Iterative prototyping surges forward with valuable feedback from patients and HCPs (including collaboration with a knee meniscus recovery patient). The focus sharpens on clinically relevant features: interactive range-of-motion visualization, trusted AI queries, and clear 14-day progress reports for surgeons. In 2026, the Recovery Tracker MVP is prototyped and refined—evolving into a scalable, Temporal AI solution ready to empower patients, caregivers, and clinicians everywhere with continuous, compassionate support.
The Caregiving Journey – The Heart of the Mission
A diagnosis changes everything: Soren becomes a full-time caregiver to his son, who faces a rare ear condition. A Coursera course on hearing loss in children equips him with knowledge and deepens his empathy for every family navigating similar uncertainty.
Two surgeries mark a demanding chapter, strengthening resolve and inspiring ongoing research, renewed connections to surgical networks, and collaboration with trusted IDEO colleagues—each step building a clearer picture of the gaps in post-op support.
Another surgery underscores the ongoing commitment, while also prompting early prototyping of a scheduling tool and digital app concepts to better manage family life around medical needs. These experiences crystallize the need for something better—and more human-centered.
The surgeon delivers the joyful news: the latest procedure was successful. After years of courage, uncertainty, and unwavering love, this breakthrough brings profound relief, closure, and a surge of hope—igniting the Recovery Tracker concept into full, vibrant life. What began as personal necessity transforms into a powerful mission: ensuring no family ever feels alone in recovery again.
Our Founder
Soren DeOrlow
Soren DeOrlow is a leader in data-driven, human-centered innovation at the intersection of healthcare, technology, and ethical product design.
As Director of Product Innovation + Strategy at Resonance Partners (since 2014), he has built long-term partnerships with top organizations including Stanford Medicine, Johnson & Johnson (with 10+ years of collaboration), AthenaHealth, UCSF Health, Mendel AI, and Kenvue—driving strategic design, product strategy, and digital transformation initiatives.
His 10-year tenure at IDEO San Francisco (2004–2014) as Principal Designer and Project Leader delivered award-winning, patented solutions across healthcare, financial wellbeing, and consumer industries for clients like Genentech, Medtronic, Merck, Cleveland Clinic, Janssen (J&J), Samsung, Wells Fargo, and Visa.
Soren holds a Master of Science in Integrated Design, Business and Technology from the University of Southern California, with a focus on business analytics, data science, product development, and entrepreneurship.
